The first round of 2023 Aussie Supercar action was headlined by two 95-lap, 250km races. The final was plagued by controversy as Shane van Gisbergen snatched victory in his Chevrolet Camaro Gen3 ZL1 for Red Bull Ampol in 89 laps with a time of 02:11:50.4825.

Following a series of strategic pit stops, Gisbergen took the lead from Mostert with a 'cheeky' contact manoeuvre minutes before the end, snatching victory by 4.4 seconds. Conscious of their roles the evolution of Gen3 racing Van Gisbergen and Mostert put on a thrilling battle for race 2 victory. Van Gisbergen welcomed the rivalry and acknowledged that he does "push things to the edge sometimes”.
